Poznan is one of Poland‘s oldest towns and is located in western Poland. It is a center of trade and sport and has one of the highest levels of quality of life in Poland. Thanks to its strategic position in the country, Poznan has always been a center of trade and as a result it is now the second most prosperous city in the country behind Warsaw. Several multinational firms have made Poznan their home over the past few years, with the unemployment rate in the city well under the national average. Poznan has quite a cool climate, although thanks to its proximity to the sea it’s not as bitter as in other eastern European cities — the winters rarely get below -10 degrees Celsius. Polish of course is the lingua franca of Poznan, although there is a local dialect spoken in the region. Polish derives from Russian (as most eastern European languages do), but crucially it uses the roman alphabet, which makes it slightly easier for most expats to grasp.
