I had the pleasure to meet so many interesting expats at a Frankfurt bar night that I found myself a new social circle in no time at all.

What I like about Frankfurt? People here maintain a healthy work-life balance and are honest, respectful, engaged at work, and enjoy having a good laugh.

I like that anyone can live well with only one salary which is not the case in my home country (France). I feel safe and have easy access to all I like: friends, restaurants, traveling, visiting my family.

The positive side of living in Frankfurt is that people are respectful, there are plenty of job opportunities and a good standard of living. Additionally, there is many activities to enjoy — like restaurants, travel, the zoo, and the opera.

I’m not particularly fond of Frankfurt—you almost need to be rich to fully enjoy life here (and I’m only half joking). However, as a French person, I love that I can reach Paris by train in under four hours to visit family. I’ve also found locals and expats here to be more helpful and honest than in France or Canada.

On the downside, here's are some negative experiences from French expats in Frankfurt

I really dislike dealing with administrative matters here. The lack of clear instructions or helpful guidance is frustrating. Whether it’s dealing with things like the German radio tax paperwork, rental agencies, or official letters related to taxes, citizenship, or legal issues, it’s always a hassle and time consuming.

My biggest challenge living here is that communication can be quite frustrating, and learning the language is tough.

What I dislike about the city is how difficult payments can be, it’s often not possible to pay by card, and digitalization in Germany is lacking.

In my experience it is difficult (if not impossible) to make local friends/connection.
