15 Km

Another hike in the Delfland region that will take us to the beach and the Nieuwe Waterweg (seagoing vessel’s access to Rotterdam Harbour) at Hoek of Holland. We will stop for lunch halfway at the Summertime Beach Pavilion.
Due to construction works there will be almost no trains to The Hague Central this weekend so we will meet at Protected content

From the metro station, we first walk into the old dune area. After passing the Vineda Dune, we arrive at a beach and dune area created by sand reclamation for the deepening of the Nieuwe Waterweg and the harbors of the first Maasvlakte in the Protected content . We then walk north through the dunes to 's-Gravezande, which we see on our right.

When we arrive at Slag Vlugtenburg, we head to the North Sea beach and stop for lunch at the Zomertijd Strand pavilion.

After lunch, we walk about 4 kilometers along the North Sea beach to the Noorderhoofd (North Head) of the Nieuwe Waterweg, the deep and wide canal that provides access to the port of Rotterdam. In Protected content , the first English steamship, the Richard Young, sailed through the canal to Rotterdam.

We walk a short distance up the Noorderhoofd as if we were walking in the sea, and then return to the metro station with a view of the ports on the other side of the canal and probably various incoming and departing ships in this busy canal to the ports of Rotterdam.
